Awesome Computer, Great Price, MSI is the way to go., December 7, 2015

This Computer is well worth the money. An equivalent MacBook Pro would run nearly $3000. I come from years of using Apple (photography/video editing/ Engineering design software (Solidworks and Inventor via Windows in Parallels)) and just cannot justify the price anymore of Apple products. The nahimic system and internal speakers pump out impressive sound for a laptop, which isn’t necessarily a selling point for me, but is to be noted. The body consists of a mixture of polycarb and aluminum. Back cover and keyboard panel are aluminum and very sturdy. Keyboard panel is a fingerprint magnet, but I meticulously maintain everything I own anyway, so I just wipe it down as needed. Not a big deal at all and definitely should not deter you from this computer.
This computer also has panel mounted buttons for manual fan control and color change of the back lit keyboard. A lot of bells and whistles are present for the money and I am still discovering more after only a few days of intermittent use. I am still acclimatizing to Windows 10, but I would absolutely purchase this computer again.
Configuration purchased was the GE72 Apache Pro-003 17″ with 1TB HDD. I have began new video edits in both 1440p and 4k. This computer doesn’t hesitate or chop at all when editing 3GB+ files like my I5 Mac sometimes did. You just can’t beat MSI computers and their bang for the buck.

Great laptop for intense usage, July 23, 2016

This review is from: MSI GE72 Apache Pro-070 17.3″ SLIM AND LIGHT GAMING LAPTOP NOTEBOOK i7-6700HQ Geforce GTX970M 16G 128GB SSD + 1TB WIN 10 (Personal Computers)
I wanted a computer that could not only handle the daily stress of use but something that would be great for any side projects (gaming, design, etc) that I happened upon. While this computer is overkill for simple projects on MS Word or just daily internet browsing it handles high CPU consuming Adobe apps and games with ease without the price tag of a Mac Pro or similar. The 16gb ram leave plenty of space for growth in CPU consuming tasks, the processor i7 6700 runs flawlessly, quickly, handling all tasks with ease and speed. The GPU (graphics) handles well on what I have played on it, both HD movies, FFXIV, and 3DS Max.

The body: The body of the machine is metal and plastic, a large 17.3in screen insures plenty of room on screen for whatever apps, programs, or games you are running. Likewise the screen is stiff staying in place at any angle placed, I hope this holds up with time. The keyboard is aesthetically pleasing with the Steelseries Engine 3 which allows for customizing your keyboard in colors. Likewise, the keys are a nice size and well spaced from each other accompanied with the 10key on the right side. A note, MSI moved the windows key for less intrusion while gaming, a plus. The colors on the screen are well put together, and the GPU brings these out to the max. The plug is located on the back right of the machine, it is a decent sized plug and I hope it holds well as some of these L shaped ones in the past have broken (will update with time). The fans are an optional button on the top right and I do suggest running them as the computer can get hot. With fans on I run CPU intensive programs at about 52C-55C. Normal use I run at about 37C-43C.

The feel: The feeling of the laptop is solid, it boosts a 128 SSD with a 1TB extra (you must set where you want programs to install, they default to the SSD). It boots within seconds, restarts in the same time if needed. The keys are nice, slick, and feel as though they will hold up under stressful typing, gaming, and whatever else they are subjected to. MSI has made a seamless environment with as little bloatware as possible, however, you will be uninstalling a decent amount of Microsoft added installs. The computer states it runs at a solid 2.6ghz, however, I’m clocking 3.3ghz 90% of the time according to HWID and MSI’s installed Dragon Gaming Performance Center.

The Specs: For what this machine is loaded with the price met the specs well on this machine. I did not want to drop 3k+ on a true monster of a laptop that I would only be using for causal gaming and other work. The i7 6700, the 970M Graphics, 16gb ram are a perfect combo that compliment the computer and its abilities. There are other computers similar, the MSI Dominator is similar in specs but was 100 more for nearly the same thing. Going over the 16gb ram or 128SSD cost was not cost efficient as a 24gb ram with 256 SSD was looking at about nearly 1k more. Not worth it. But it would have been nice to have a bigger SSD as it comes nearly 50-65gb full… Hence the need for the 1TB 7200 DDRM3 drive which is still very quick and something I put most my programs on.

Things to do when receiving: Update your drivers, they are mostly out of date, disable Windows Defender thru reg edit (or gpedit if you upgrade to Pro), be prepared for a massive amount of Windows Updates (as normal…). Set your connection as metered so Windows isn’t downloading updates while your doing something (gaming, design, word, etc).

    Complaints:
Battery… But what do you expect from a gaming laptop, it’ll last maybe 1.5hrs in power saving with minimal usage.
The gloss on the keyboard attracts the oils of your hands, fingers, cat hair, etc, like there is no tomorrow.
No scroll side bar on the mouse pad.
    Top seems easy to scratch
Would have been nice for a 256 SSD option.

Overall, my satisfaction with this laptop has been great. I would reorder again and hope to receive another perfect work horse as this. I’ll update after more use has been given.
