I only recently found out about alginate products. I also have a product called Acid Block and there are other brands that have the same action. I love the flavor of anise. This product also comes in peppermint–but if you have esophageal issues, peppermint is a no-no. I wish this anise one came in a larger bottle (the peppermint comes in a 500ml bottle). With chewable tablets one needs to drink a glass of water to activate the alginate. Drinking a glass of water can sometimes make me feel bloated, because I drink a lot of water at night after dinner, and one more glass after the pills is too much.

This Gaviscon is great–very thick, with a strong scent of anise. I love it. I take 2 teaspoons before bed. And I go to sleep on my left side, as is recommended. If you peel back the label, the packaging on this Gaviscon will reassure you. My gastric doc gave me a prescription for Prilosec. I never filled it. Instead I’m taking this before bed. I also take DGL, digestive enzymes and probiotics. Also, fish oil–1 T of Cod Liver Oil and two krill pills per day.

I am trying to heal a Grade A esophagitis. I am asymptomatic, so I don’t even feel reflux. Doc says this is the worst combo–damage and no symptoms. I believe this yummy Gaviscon is gonna go a long way toward getting healed. Also, I eat freeze dried black raspberry powder in some plain yogurt–there have been clinical trials of this powder in healing esophageal issues. I really feel bad for people with symptoms. I don’t have any, which is good, but also bad, because it would be easy for me to say I’m fine, why do any of this? My father and grandfather both died at 64 of adenocarcinoma of the LES. That’s my motivation, because I’m less than 15 years away from 64.

I have been using Gaviscon products since 2011 when I was diagnosed with GERD and a Hiatal Hernia. Coupled with a PPI, Gaviscon has done a great job in reducing night-time reflux. When I first heard about the UK formulation of Gaviscon that contains even more sodium alginate than the American version, I knew I had to try it immediately. This is the best version of Gaviscon I have tried, even better than Canadian formulation.

I have been prescribed the liquid suspension of Carafate to coat my stomach when I’m having a bad flareup. This Gaviscon has a similar function in coating my stomach and preventing acid from entering my esophagus throughout the day. Thankfully Gaviscon is much more affordable than Carafate, my monthly prescription costs me nearly $100!

The flavor is decent and actually tastes much better than I expected. I would still use this product if it tasted awful because it works phenomenally and that’s all that matters to me. I will be trying to the peppermint flavor next time around.

I wish I could get this formulation in a store but thankfully Amazon exists. Shipping from the UK to me was much faster than expected, I will happily order this product again.
